Halloween

Had a great Halloween. Started the day out watching Kailei's costume parade at school. Then I went into her classroom and ended up staying for the whole Halloween party. I usually don't stay for the whole time but it seemed like the room mom was shorthanded and I was having fun anyway.  Kailei appreciated that I was there.  There were some creative games played and the kids had a good time.

As usual Mom, Dad, Mark, Tracie and family all came over for Halloween. We had a combination of pizza and chicken for dinner because some of the people are not liking pizza these days and then headed out for trick-or-treating.  I stayed home because it was pretty chilly out and I'm a wimp.

Sad to say that Keara did not go trick-or-treating this year. She just wanted to hand out candy. I tried to convince her to go trick-or-treating for me but it was no go.  She blamed it on her braces and not being able to have candy but I think she is just getting older.  Sad moment for me.

Kailei was a cheetah this year and Sydney was a nerd. They both looked adorable. Another Halloween put to rest.

The Botanic Gardens

The girls and I went to Sydney's gymnastics meet today and then decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and headed down to the botanic Gardens. It was really gorgeous out. We wish Deb would've been with us but he was home doing chores. I could stay forever in the botanic Gardens at least if I had a book I could. Glad we got to go however.

Monster Mini golf

Had a blast tonight playing monster Mini golf. After Adoptween we went out for pizza with our friends the Lange's and the Rickett's. Close by was Monster Mini golf. Kailei has always wanted to go there. Seems perfect to do it around Halloween. It was a black light golf course with lots of scary decorations.  Loved it!

October Adoptween

Kailei participated in Adoptween again today. Her friends Lydia, Lucy and Samantha also went. As usual Kailei had a great time. They played games, painted pumpkins had snacks and enjoyed being with each other. It was especially nice to see our friend Hannah there who stayed with us this summer. Can't wait until next month.

Gymnastics

Went and watched Sidney and Samantha compete in their gymnastics events today. Keara loves to attend and generally ends up writing all the scores down.  She also loves to support her cousin and friend.  The girls both did great. Sam had an exceptionally good meet and placed second all-around. Sydney did great as well and I believe that she got fifth all-around. Can't wait to see the next one!

A Good Laugh

Got invited to go see the comedian
Margaret Cho with my friends Michael and Scott. I wasn't going to go but decided I could use a good laugh. I wasn't disappointed. We had a great time.

Shopping with Kailei

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

"Do all the other things, the ambitious things – travel, get rich, get famous, innovate, lead, fall in love, make and lose fortunes, swim naked in wild jungle rivers (after first having it tested for monkey poop) – but as you do, to the extent that you can, err in the direction of kindness. Do those things that incline you toward the big questions, and avoid the things that would reduce you and make you trivial. That luminous part of you that exists beyond personality – your soul, if you will – is as bright and shining as any that has ever been."                                                                                                          -George Saunders

Kailei-ism's

Kailei: "Why can't I get a cell phone?"
Me: "You can get a cell phone when you learn how to take care of your electronics and not lose them."
Kailei: "Now that's just hurtful."

*********

Me: "Will you play a little piano for me later?"
Kailei: "I'm pretty busy. You'll have to take a number."

*********

"If Krispy Kreme had tatoos. I'd get a permanent one.", said Kailei as we drove past the donut shop.

*********

Kailei found a coupon for $100 off some eye glasses. "They are givers Mom.", she commented.

*********

Kailei: "You're not gonna bring behavior into it, are ya? Because I don't like life lessons at dinner..."

*********

Teacher: "So what kinds of after school activities are you involved in?"
Kailei: "Dance."
Teacher: "What kind of dance?"
Kailei: "Jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical, chinese..."
Teacher: "Wow, you are very busy.  Do you have time for homework?"
Kailei: "Apparently."

*********

Had parent/teacher conferences with Kailei today. She went with me. After, I was telling her that I wanted her to work on talking less since the teacher mentioned she was chatty. She said, "Yeah, it was such a great moment until then."

*********

Kailei had a field trip today and got to eat at the food court. After picking her up from school she stated she had Sbarro for lunch... "And since you weren't there, I got a little somethin'-somethin' to drink." (Dr. Pepper)

*********

"I've never eaten in a food court before except when I've been in the mall. I'll need some money. My friends and I have mad love for Panda Express.", said Kailei.

Pumpkin Festival

The girls and I decided to take advantage of a beautiful day and we headed down to the Pumpkin Festival at Chatfield State Park. It was crazy busy but since the field was so very big it was okay. There were a few rides, lots of food, a pumpkin patch and crafts to do. We met up with the Peterson's which made it even more fun.

Virginia

I made a quick trip to Virginia this week. Decided to help with a little Google training in a school district down there. I left on Sunday and returned on Monday. It was fast but a nice change of pace.  I especially enjoyed driving in Virginia. The sun was shining and the trees were just beautiful.  I put on some music and made my way to Staunton.  The school that we trained at was really nice and the people were very friendly. The only bummer was it took me hours and hours and hours to get home. After two plane delays, I finally made it back to Colorado at 2:30am.  Needless to say I didn't go into work that day.

Homecoming Parade

The local high school's homecoming parade was today. Always a good time because they through lots of candy. Keara was not able to join us cause she was home sick but Kailei and I hooked up with the Wyman's and had a good time.
