A Mother

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And the guide said, "Yes, and the way is hard.  And you will be old before you reach the end of it.  But the end will be better than the beginning."

But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years.  So she played with her children, and gathered flowers for them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this."
Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come."

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary.  But at all times she said to the children," A little patience and we are there."  So the children climbed, and when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we would not have done it without you."
And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage. Today, I've given them strength."

And the next day came strange clouds which darkened the earth, clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped and stumbled, and the mother said, "Look up. Lift your eyes to the light.  "And the children looked and saw above the clouds an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the darkness.  And that night the Mother said, "This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God."

And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mother grew old and she was little and bent.  But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage.  And when the way was rough, they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill, and beyond they could  see a shining road and golden gates flung wide.  And mother said, "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk alone, and their children after them."

And the children said, "You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates."  And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her.  And they said: "We cannot see her but she is with us still.  A Mother like ours is more than a memory.  She is a living essence."

Your Mother is always with you... She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear drop.  She's the place you came from, your first home; and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space... not even death!

Home is where your story begins.

MWCC Chinese New Year Celebration

Got together with everyone on Sunday afternoon to celebrate Chinese New Year.  Everyone was able to attend which is always a treat.  Normally we have an evening event but this one was scheduled for the afternoon and worked out very well.  Naturally there was Chinese food, music, crafts and conversation.  To my surprise the mom's also gave me a gift certificate to a spa and some special notes from each of them for organizing many of the events that we do.  I was touched and humbled to say the least.

Kailei-ism's

As we passed Chick-fil-a and saw the big cow waving at us, Kailei was star struck and insisted we stop and get his autograph.
*****
We were talking about marriage at dinner today and I was saying you have to take the good with the bad when you decide to marry someone. Very seriously Kailei asked, "Do you really? (she was definitely concerned) :)
*****
Kailei had Zeb empty out her dream catcher last night. She said it was full. :)
*****
Is it true that you can make a wish on the first star of the night?
Remember that time i wished on a shooting star in the daytime?  I wished for super powers, but it didn't work.

JCCC Chinese New Year Performance

From September until Chinese New Year the kids work hard on their dances.  It so pays off.  Today we enjoyed watching Kailei in her Peacock Dance as well as many of her friends.  I think watching all the kids perform is one of my favorite things.  Kailei was a little nervous but she did just fine.  So proud of everyone.

Stock Show

Can't believe how fast the year is going already.  Time for the Stock Show this weekend.  The girls had the day off so both Zeb and I took the day as well and enjoyed the rodeo, very expensive funnel cakes, cotton candy, snow cones, bbq and dog agility.  The tradition continues but it sure is getting expensive.  Keara had to bail on us early as she had a birthday/sleepover to attend.  I think we are moving into that stage where friends are more important than family.  Oh well, I get it.  We had a good time anyway and look forward to next year.

BIG Announcement!

We are heading to China this summer!  The whole family will embark on a 2 week journey to visit Kailei's homeland.  We are very excited.  We had not planned on going back this year but the stars aligned (finances) and we needed to take advantage of it.  We will be traveling to Beijing, Xi'an, Chendu, Guilan and to Hengyang.  I can hardly get my head around it right now but will share more later.

MWCC New Year's

We were invited over the the Merwin-Olk's for new year's eve and so we headed down to Denver for a little fun.  Paul cooked up a wonderful dinner, the kids played so nicely and we adults had time to talk and play a board game.  Loved the company.  It was a great way to spend the evening.

Ice Skating

Zeb took the girls ice skating the other day and they had a blast.  Kailei was fearless and skating circles around folks.  Keara stuck with her dad and mastered the art a little slower.  While they complained about their legs hurting, it didn't stop them from asking to go again this morning.  They padded their legs in hopes that there would be less bruising from the ice skates.  I'm avoiding the ice.  The thought of falling makes my back hurt at the mere thought of it.  I do have fun watching them though.
