Race for the Cure

Today the girls and I made her annual trek downtown for Race for the Cure. I lost track of many times we've done it but I appreciate the fact that the girls go with me every year in memory of those that we are loved and lost.

Nic's Birthday

Today we celebrated Nic's birthday. He's 16 years old if you can believe it. Of course we had to have Big Bills pizza which is his favorite (no complaints here). Then we headed over to mom and dads house and had a cake that Keara made and opened gifts. Can't believe my nephew is so old. Time sure flies by. Nic is a great kid however. Kudos to his parents for raising such a nice young man.

Ricky's First Haircut

He had his first haircut today with us. I think he was shaved when he first went to the rescue organization.  They said he was a good boy but he doesn't like his feet being dealt with. That's okay, he'll get used to it. What a handsome boy he is!

Family Fun

It is rare these days that we can get Keara to do much of anything. She is a teenager. She says no a lot. But today we managed to go on a picnic and then we headed up to the Wild Animal Sanctuary. I've been wanting to go there for years. It was a beautiful day and fun to walk amongst the lions and bears and tigers for the matters. Loved reading about the stories and knowing that there are people in this world that will take care of animals like these.

Mountains are Calling

Well, Zeb doesn't always get the kind of time he would like to have to climb mountains but instead of going with me to theatre he headed up the hill today. He went up the mountain with his cousin Paula. They had a good time although I hear it was cold. I'll stick with the theatre.

Theatre Date

Kailei and I had a great mother-daughter date today. We headed downtown and went to see the show Pippen. Of course it wasn't as good as the Broadway version but we enjoyed it nevertheless. Kailei said she even liked it more than Wicked. Afterwords we went out to dinner to the Spaghetti Factory and had lots of fun gabbing. Love this kid!

"Mom, do you actually wear these shoes?"
"Yes, what's wrong with them."
"Nothing, but me... I can rock these shoes. You...not so much."

Zeb: Should I go get some KFC so we can have a picnic on the beach?
Kailei: Nah..I think that will offend the birds here.

"Bruce Willowhammer in Ninja Meercats is exactly like dad. He is really, really strong but lacks brains."

"I don't get why this airport is so western. I don't see any cowboys and nobody here is saying, "This place ain't big enough for the two of us."

Kailei: "It's only two digits Mom. Let me grow up a little bit more."

K. "How does a watermelon come out such a small hole?"
Z. "Well, the mom's body is pretty amazing - just like the uterus stretches to fit the baby, it stretches to let the baby out."
K. "Wait - so, could you put, like, an apple in there?"

Saturday Fun

Enjoyed the day today.  Kailei had an adoptween meeting and got to see lots of her friends and the moms and I got to head out for a little coffee and catching up.

 

Labor Day

Enjoyed a very relaxing Labor Day. Spent the last day of the summer at the pool with Kailei. Mom and Mark joined me and we sat around and did nothing but that is just fine. Grabbed some KFC and went over to my house after. Nice way to end the weekend.
